Why Our Care Model Looks Different
And Why We’ve Chosen to Remain Out of Network
One of the most common questions we receive is why Medella Collective operates outside of traditional insurance networks.
It’s a fair question - and an important one.
In today’s healthcare system, many practices are built around speed and volume. Appointments are shorter, treatment decisions are often constrained by reimbursement rules, and success is measured by how efficiently boxes are checked rather than how well a person truly improves.
That model works in some settings. But it isn’t the kind of care we set out to provide. Here is Dr. Sarah King - PT, Owner, and Founder of Medella Collective with more…
The Limits of a Volume-Based System
Insurance-driven healthcare often requires providers to:
See a high number of patients each day
Follow rigid treatment guidelines that may not fit the individual
Focus on billable codes rather than clinical reasoning
Prioritize documentation for reimbursement over time spent with patients
Over time, this can limit how deeply a provider can assess movement patterns, understand lifestyle factors, or adjust care thoughtfully as the body responds.
For complex pain, recurring injuries, or issues that don’t fit neatly into a diagnostic box, this system can fall short.
Why We Chose a Different Path
By remaining out of network, our providers are able to practice with greater clinical autonomy and intention.
This allows us to:
Spend meaningful, unrushed time with each patient
Look beyond isolated symptoms to identify root contributors
Adjust treatment plans based on real-time response, not preset visit limits
Consider the full picture: movement, recovery, stress, habits, and health history
Care decisions are guided by what your body needs - not what a policy allows.
What This Means for Our Patients
Out-of-network care isn’t about offering more services - it’s about offering better-focused care.
Our patients often tell us they notice:
Fewer visits with more clarity and purpose
A stronger understanding of why their body is responding the way it is
Care plans that evolve instead of following a rigid script
A sense of being heard, not rushed
This model creates space for clinical reasoning, education, and trust - all of which are essential for lasting progress.
Transparency Matters to Us
We believe patients should clearly understand their care and their costs.
Because we don’t work through insurance contracts, pricing is straightforward and discussed upfront. There are no surprise bills, no hidden codes, and no uncertainty about what your time will look like during an appointment.
Some patients choose to submit visits for potential out-of-network reimbursement depending on their plan, while others prefer the simplicity of direct pay. Either way, the care itself remains the same.
Care Guided by People, Not Policies
At Medella Collective, our goal isn’t to work around the system - it’s to work for the person in front of us.
Remaining out of network allows us to protect the kind of care we believe in:
Thoughtful
Individualized
Clinically grounded
Relationship-driven
It’s not the easiest path - but it’s the one that aligns with our values and the outcomes we want for our patients.
